What's your grip size?

Naturally, in the peak of summer when the weather is warm, you wear light clothing so you feel cool and don’t overheat on the course.

Likewise, many golfers switch out their spikeless golf shoes for a cleated option when winter hits - not to mention waterproofs, bobble hats and additional layers.

So here’s a question for you:

How much attention do you give the grips on your clubs?

It’s very easy to overlook your grips and accept them as just the club’s handle, but this section of the club acts as the direct source of contact between us, the club, and the ball.

The importance of having the right size golf grips

Let's start by considering our glove, which the majority of golfers wear without too much thought. A golf glove needs to be relatively snug to give the best feel and performance on every shot.

This is directly related to your hand size. That's why we have various sizes available in the shop, from Small through to XL. In your weekend fourball, there's a pretty high chance there'll be different glove sizes on show.

So, with this in mind, should two people with vasty different sized hands be playing with the normal 'Standard' size grip?

If you were to buy a club off the shelf or as standard online (which we don't recommend - custom fitting is essential), it'll come with a Standard sized grip. But, as you can see in the images above, Golf Pride actually has four different sizes available in each grip.

If you’ve got a grip that’s slightly too small, this means that your hands are going to react in a way that won't, let’s say, keep up with your golf swing. They’re going to almost overtake, so when you come into impact, you might see that golf ball head to the left-hand side.

However, if you have a grip in your hand that is slightly too big for you, you won't be able to time up the rotation of the clubface, leaving it slightly open, resulting in missing your target down the right-hand side.

Finding your grip size

As with any aspect of golf, we can easily clear things up for you when you visit us in-person.

As you can see from our video, finding out your ideal grip size is very quick and easy. Simply visit us in the shop and have a go placing your hand on our interactive Golf Pride display. Once you line up your hand correctly, you’ll see which grip size you fall into based on your middle finger's length.

Plus, right now in the shop, we’ll put a FREE Golf Pride MCC Plus4 grip on your 7 iron. We want you to feel the benefits of getting one of your primary clubs upgraded with the correct sized grip.
