Winter wheels

The compulsory winter wheel operation is now in place. For those of you who are yet to get them onto your trolley, we have some available to reserve. Please give us a call urgently as stocks will soon run low and you will not be able to use your trolley until the weather improves in the spring.

If you have the old wrap around wheels that were sold last winter, we will fit them for you FREE of charge with a few days notice.

Competition news

PGA Fourball Betterball competition

On Monday, the club held a PGA Fourball Betterball competition. This was a well-supported event with professionals coming from Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Kent, Essex and Surrey.

The winning pair consisted of our very own Head Professional Glen Portelli and resident putting guru James Jankowski.

The pair shot a betterball score of -9 to share the winnings with James Ruebotham (Welwyn GC) and Harry Casey (Enfield GC) who also recorded a -9 score.

The course was in beautiful condition, so all the professionals would like to say a massive thank you to Mark and his team.

Studio hire

Although we are not there yet, the time is coming where it would be nice to be playing golf in warmer climates. Luckily it never gets cold or wet here at Old Fold Manor thanks to our Indoor Studio.

It's time to stop putting it off - Christmas is getting closer and closer, so you need to consider what will be going under the tree later this year. We're not just talking about the presents that you buy for loved ones and friends, but also what you want to be unwrapping come December 25th.

A golfer who is not utilising the immense help that a GPS device provides is putting themselves at a major disadvantage over their playing partners. Knowing how far you have to the green (front, middle and back) as well as hazards is vital to hitting your next shot with confidence, which you can get from the Approach S10.

Buried alive!

One of the enduring memories from this year's Ryder Cup was how brutal the rough was at Le Golf National; sometimes it was impossible to even see the ball once it landed in the first cut. This led to a lot of buried lies for players on both teams, which is something you’ll be dealing with yourself this winter...

These lies can lead to scorecard-wreckers, so it's important you know how to get your ball back into play when out on the course.

Firstly, don't be greedy! Make sure you take a lofted club - a wedge for example - which will help get you out of trouble. A lesser lofted club won’t get the ball in the air quickly enough, as the club comes in at too shallow an angle, resulting in it getting caught up in the grass behind the ball.

You should also make sure you play the ball further back in your stance, which encourages a steeper angle of attack to elevate the ball out of the grass nice and quickly, ensuring you can play your next shot from the fairway.
