The Open Championship review from Steve

Steve was up at Carnoustie for the week to spectate. While he was there he explored the golf course, the food tents and of course the beer tents. However, he did watch some golf as well. He followed the likes of Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy.

One stand out player that played in his first Open last week was Erik Van Rooyen. He hit the most greens in regulation for the first three days and if his putting was on better form he would have had it wrapped up by Sunday. He is definitely a good bet for the future and has the ability to become one of golf’s stars in the future.

Bol's drive question

On Captains Day one of our “elite” players hit a wayward tee shot on the 18th hole. Nick Bolsover was photographed in the tree’s miles offline.

We asked you to guess how far nick Bolsover was from the middle of the 18th fairway. The correct answer was 106 yards. Yes, nick was a whopping 106 yards from the middle of the fairway. Safe to say he blobbed that hole.

Well done to Geoff Arnett, you were the closest guess. You have won a FREE 30-minute Studio hire.

The Open Sweepstake results

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Open Sweepstake. We sold a lot of players but we didn’t sell the outright winners, therefore we have given 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes to the top finishers that were drawn. The results are below:

Junior dates

The summer holidays are fast approaching and if you’re struggling for things to keep your children occupied we might have the perfect answer. We are hosting kids summer golf camps throughout the holidays that will be open to all ages and abilities.

Open Link result

On the Sunday of the Open we held our Open Link competition where a team of three members will draw one player from the final round of the Open to count to their team score. Below are the results:

Danger!

Are you the type of golfer who considers the danger ahead of you and plans accordingly, or do you pull a driver from the bag on every par-4 and par-5 without a blink? If you’re the latter then you need to read on.

Consider the danger
You hear pros talk a lot about the ‘smart shot’ in their post-round interviews. If you’re on the tee and there’s a bunker, ditch or other hazard around the distance that your driver or fairway wood normally flies, then make sure you change club to one that takes the trouble out of play, as displayed in this graphic. While you’ll have a slightly longer shot to the green, you’ll greatly reduce the chance of a big number.

Know your numbers
Of course, key to all of this is knowing how far each of your woods carries.
