Club news

County Championship

Last week OFM hosted the Hertfordshire Men’s County Championship. 65 of the best golfers in Hertfordshire battled it out over 36 holes on Friday which featured our three Davis’ (Spencer, Nick Jnr and Nick Snr). Spencer shot two very good scores of 71 and 73 to get him through to the last 16 (which is played in a knockout matchplay format). Spencer played against Alex McCarthur of Letchworth and gave a valiant effort, but unfortunately lost on the 18th hole. Well done to Spencer for getting to that stage. The eventual final was between Laurie Owen of Letchworth and James Surridge of Centurion. James played excellent golf all week and came out victorious on the 16th hole winning 3&2. Well done to James and everyone who competed.

Spurs vs. Arsenal

On Bank Holiday Monday Neil Hewitt and Andy Bardsley organised the Spurs vs. Arsenal day at Old Fold Manor. This event seemed to be growing in anticipation, just like the North London Derby! The teams consisted of Spurs and Arsenal Fans fighting for bragging rights for another year... The mighty Spurs came away victorious buy three match points and came away with the trophy. A big thank you to Neil organising the event and putting on a great spread of food and beverages for everyone who played. COYS!

Lombard Qualifier

This Saturday we have the Lombard Trophy Qualifier. The winning member will play with Jack on Thursday, 19 July in the Regional Qualifier at Sandy Lodge Golf Club. If you can remember last year Jack and Nick Bolsover qualified and played in the National Final in Portugal. All you must do is sign in on the day and bring your 'A Game'.

Callum wins at Sheringham

OFM member Callum Austin travelled to Sheringham Golf Club in Norfolk last week to play in their Scratch Open. Callum went to the event after a long week of working tirelessly in the office ensuring all our members are happy in preparation for the County Championship. He played two fantastic rounds of 71 and 73 (+1 and +3) and won the event by one shot. Well done Callum and keep up the good form!

Five stars for Glen

Head Professional Glen Portelli came away with another victory at the Hadley Wood Pro-Am with a bogey free 66 (-5) to win by two shots. A quote from the PGA saying ‘Portelli showed that he remains the region’s most in-form golfer with a flawless five-under 67 on his latest outing’. Keep up the fantastic golf Glen!

Hertfordshire Pro-Am

More Pro-Am news! Jack Frances is looking for a Pro-Am team for the Hertfordshire on Wednesday, 6 June. Price per amateur will be £70, including a round of golf with your professional and food before and after golf. These days are always great fun and are full of prizes for teams.
